The anticipation over the 2013 immigration reform continues today as the release of the proposal was delayed due to the tragic bombings which occurred in Boston.

The 2013 immigration reform would seek to accomplish several things. First and foremost, it would provide an avenue to citizenship for the millions of individuals who have entered the country illegally or overstayed. The bi-partisan effort would also create thousands of new visas for low skilled workers, creating thousands of new jobs. Finally, the new legislation would divert billions into border security utilizing technology ranging from security fencing to surveillance drones. Security would also be enhanced by added approximately 3,500.00 additional agents to border patrol.

The legislation in discussion would essentially create an entire overhaul of the immigration system, a feat that was attempted in 2007 but ultimately failed.

The now notorious “gang of eight” which includes; republican senators Marco Rubio (Fla.), John McCain (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Jeff Flake (Ariz.) and democrat senators. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), Dick Durbin (Ill.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), and Michael Bennet (Co.). Members of the eight have briefed colleagues in both chambers of congress although, they defer from speaking about specifics of the bill to the press at this time.

From the executive front, President Obama has been supportive of the bipartisan efforts and cooperation and eagerly awaits the official unveiling states press secretary Jay Carney. The Obama administration looks forward to assessing the official language of the bill first hand. It is also possible that senators John McCain and Charles E. Schumer of the “gang of eight” will be meeting with the president in person to discuss the bill, according to a source familiar with the presidential schedule.

Despite presidential support, the 2013 immigration reform is set to face the Senate Judiciary committee whose purpose is to allow opponents of the bill to voice their concerns. It is rumored that many senators could propose amendments that would upset the structure of the bill, causing it to die in committee – a similar fate to that of the proposed 2007 immigration reform.

This issue is sure to change day by day and its outcomes will affect millions. Fairfaximmigrationfirm.com will be posting up to date information as it is received.
